OUR HISTORY
A group of young university students for the Sarrià District wanted to boost the cultural environment in the area and to enjoy one of the oldest and most traditional activities of the Catalan heritage while learning more about it and having fun. That way, in November of 2016, they arranged the first meeting at Casa Orlandai to discuss the refounding of Castellers de Sarrià, a Human Tower group that already existed in the past. That meeting was attended by neighbors, friends, families, children and other people from the area.
The human tower group was born with the clear objective of creating a network among the different entities and people from Sarrà and Sant Gervasi, in Barcelona. All of that, using the human tower values of cooperation, integration, generosity, cohesion, teamwork, plural and intergenerational communication and integration as a base.
This District of Barcelona already had a "colla", which was born during the autumn of 1999. However, it had a major crisis in 2004 and disappeared the following year. During that period they managed to build the tower of six floors (2d6), the castle with five people at the base and six floors (5d6) and a pillar of 5 floors (pd5).
In May of 2017, the new group becomes part of CCCC (Coordinadora de Colles Castelleres de Catalunya), the main coordinating organization in the human tower world. The "colla" is considered as one in training until the 8th of October of 2017, when, during the main Sarrià holiday, Festa Major de Sarrià, they manage to successfully build the first tower of six floors since their reappearance.
In June of 2018, the group makes it's first full performance with two pillars of four levels (pd4), a tower with four people at the base and six levels(4d6), a tower with three people and six levels (3d6) and the same tower with a pillar inside of it (3d6a).
At the main Sarrià Holiday (Festa Major) in 2018, we wore the wine-colored shirt for the first time, which was selected from a participative process that took place in the human towers group. This shirt has the original color of the old "colla", inspired by St. Eulalia's pennon, who is believed to be born and raised in Sarrià. As an addition, the shell of Sarrià (neighbourhood's coat of arms) is added to the back.
On April 27th we had the "bateig", which literally translates to the word baptism. It was the first "Diada" organizaed by Sarria's human towers group together with the groups of Barcelona and Castellers de la Vila de Gràcia.
Rather than human towers, we are creating a family at Sarrià-Sant Gervasi.
Our motto: Fem pinya, fem vila!
